JUNIOR OPTIMIST CLUB - CANYON CREST ACADEMY

Canyon Crest Academy Ravens JOOI Club

The Ravens Octagon Club, sponsored by the Del Mar - Solana Beach Optimist Club had a busy first year of Optimism.

Ravens members demonstrated significant community service mindedness and carried out several projects during the year. In service to the needy, Ravens members prepared and distributed lunches of peanut butter sandwiches and fresh fruit for 250 hungry homeless people. They also participated in the Shamu Walk fundraiser benefiting Rady Children's Hospital. Early on, they collected and donated stuffed animals during the holiday season. Canyon Crest Academy Ravens members also collected and donated gently used books in a book drive for needy readers. In an effort to make it easier for parents of child patients at Rady Children's Hospital, Ravens Octagon Club members prepared 50 snack packs for parents to pick up at Ronald McDonald House to allow more time for parents to spend with their sick children.

Club members participated in two Mission Bay beach cleanup projects associated with CALSO JOOI District Meeting events. Ravens members performed a joint service project with their sponsoring adult Del Mar - Solana Beach Optimist Club by supporting the Glenn Pudick Musical Recital held at the Museum of Making Music, in a fundraiser supporting Optimist International's dedicated Childhood Cancer Campaign effort to eradicate childhood cancer.

Club Member Briana Kaler serves as the 2013/2014 CALSO JOOI District Governor, and Adrienne Rozells is the JOOI District Secretary-Treasurer. Both will lead the CALSO JOOI District as it hosts the annual JOOI International Convention in San Diego during the summer of 2014.
