HOLIDAY DINNER - PRESIDENT DAVE

Hello Fellow Optimists,
Before I get to other Club News, and Events, I would like to thank Jim Parrotte for his "job well done" in forming, and submitting required paper work for, our new JOOI Club - the CCA RAVENS OCTAGON CLUB. In addition, we also acquired a new Member for our Club, Kristen Zanoni, who will serve as the JOOI Club Advisor from Canyon Crest Academy. And, I would like thank JoAnn Carlton for her efforts with our "award winning" Club Scrapbook. Jim, and JoAnn, received the much coveted Presidents Gold Star Award at the December 5th Breakfast Meeting.
Thank you Susan for organizing our Club efforts with the Casa De Amistad Christmas Party for the children. Nicole, Casa De Amistad Director, spoke to us at our December 5th Meeting about this organization. Several of our Members helped with the book wrapping on December 13th, and many of us will be lending a hand at their Party on December 18th (5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church - Devin Hall).
Our Del Mar-Solana Beach Optimist Club was also well represented by several Club Members at the Beach Grass Cafe (owned by our Member - Kevin Nelson) Ribbon Cutting, and the "Tribute" to the Honorable Joe Kellejian - another Club Member - at the Wild Note Cafe. December 13th was a very busy day, because in addition to all the afore mentioned, Audrey made a Holiday Delivery to Rady Children’s Hospital which included 120 Pocket Blankets, 128 Treasure Bags (76 included Hand Puppets), 50 IV Covers, and 100 Baby Blankets!
Members, and Guests, were greeted at the Del Mar-Solana Beach Optimist Club Holiday Dinner Party at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club on December 12th with a "complimentary" glass of champagne sponsored by your President, and Board of Directors. Honored Guests at our Dinner were Governor Carole May, her Mother Dotty, and other Members of the Oceanside Optimist Club - Dorothy and Warren. Carl Tillinghast, President of the Carlsbad Achievers Club, and wife Nancy, were also in attendance. Carl presented Audrey a check in the amount of $250. from the Achievers Club for the District Childhood Cancer Campaign - this will be followed by a pledged $100. per month. Other Guests included Lisa Reichert, and daughter Rebecca, and Barbara and Dick Madresh.
Santa, along with "elf" Rich Bruno, made an appearance and brought a gift for a lucky winner at each Table: Barbara Madresh won Tickets for Two at the NC Rep Theater (along with Dinner at Pizza Nova),
Tara Gordon won a beautiful Starbucks Gift Basket, Charlie Pease won a Gift Certificate from the Pacifica, Grace Junk won a Gift Certificate from Sbicca's, Jon Vance won a Gift Certificate from Red Tracton's, and Judy Hancock won Gift Certificates from Jake's and the Beach Grass Cafe.
Many of our Newer Club Members were in attendance: Hansen Djavaharian (and wife, Nancy), Beverly Parrotte, Marcy Singer, Sara Vance, Jennifer Beyer, and Ellie Topolovac (and husband, Bob). Lana Gill had to cancell at the last minute due to" baby sitter" problems; however, she has promised to bring Kaden to a Breakfast Meeting! The beautiful Poinsetta Center Pieces at each Table were won in a unique fashion - thanks to JoAnn Carlton. And, we all enjoyed the big "Holiday Cracker Pull"!
Kent Moser won the raffle drawing for the "Money Tree", and promptly donated the money (over $200.) back to our Youth Fund to be used for a future Mountain Boarding Program, Chaired by Brad Beren. Then, he gave the Christmas Tree away to Tina and Rich Bruno!! What a good jolly old soul you are, Kent - we appreciate you, and Amy!
At the close of the Dinner, everyone was given an Optimist Bookmark, with a Red Ribbon, from our Holiday Dinner Party Committee - Audrey, Emy, and JoAnn. Thank You for your efforts in making our first Holiday Dinner a success.
Our Del Mar-Solana Beach Optimist Club is here for you, and offers many ways for you to get involved as we strive to "Bring out the Best in Kids". We are planning Youth Projects, and Social Events, for 2013, and I invite you to participate, and have fun with other Club Members.
Very Best Wishes for a Happy Holiday Season, and the New Year!

PRESIDENTS COMMENTS. OCTOBER, 2012

Our Dinner Meeting this past Wednesday, October 24th, at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club was alive with positive energy, and well attended by several of our new Members - Elizabeth Parrotte, Jay Haripriyan, , Jennifer Beyer, Kris Eldridge, Lorine Wright, and Marcy Singer. In addition, Amy and Kent Moser brought two guests - Kathy and Jim McCollum. We all enjoyed an entertaining Speaker, David Allen, who enlightened the crowd with personality traits in four categories.

Shirley Foote won the "Mystery Drawing" - a surprise prize that you can only win if you are in attendance. Dinner Meetings provide an excellent way in which a Member can connect with other Members, and keep in touch with all the activities of our Club.

We have some exciting events coming up in the future - please mark your Calendars:
November 3rd - Optimist Member Volunteer Day at the Miracle League Ballpark - San Diegito Park, Solana Beach. We help with the Snacks and Hot Dogs in two hour shifts from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Holiday Stocking Program - now thru the first week of December, we will be "stuffing Holiday Stockings" to be shipped to our Military serving over seas. Please contact Susan Pfleeger if you are interested in participating in this program.

December 18th - we will be Volunteering help at the Casa De Amistad Holiday party for Children to be held at the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. Details will follow.

December 12th - our very own Del Mar-Solana Beach Optimist Club Holiday Dinner at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. We hope all Members will be able to attend this festive event!

We also have a fun new Project - "Pennies for a Purpose" - a large jar will be collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, quartes, and even paper for the benefit of programs at the Ronald McDonald House.

Our Optimist Club remains strong, and active. We invite you to join us as we serve the Youth in our Community.
Sincerely,
David

PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS. September, 2012

Hello,
Where does the time go? August is over, and we are rapidly approaching the end of our 2011-2012 Optimist Year.
Please note the coming events in September, and be sure to mark your calendars accordingly.
We had another enjoyable Dinner Meeting on August 15th at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. Our guest speakers were Elizabeth and April, from "Angel Faces."
Your President was proud to present two Gold Stars to our outstanding Members Emy Schneider, and Brad Beren, for their contributions to our Optimist Club during the year. Emy serves on the District Childhood Cancer Campaign committee, and was instrumental in helping Audrey (District Childhood Cancer Campaign Chairperson) with the "Wine Tsting Fundraiser Event". She also serves on our Optimist Board of Directors.
Brad did an outstanding job in chairing our first "Youth Mountain Boarding Event", and we are looking forward to more events in the future.
The winner of the "Mystery Drawing" - a certificate for a Complimentary Breakfast or Dinner at one of our future meetings - was Beverly Parrotte! Remember you can't win the drawing if you do not Attend the Dinner Meeting. So, the "Moral of the Story is - Attend the Dinner Meetings, and you could go home a winner!!
SEPTEMBER EVENTS: Due to a bevy of Optimist Events in September, we are NOT going to have a dinner meeting on September 19th.
Some of our Members are attending the Optimist District Convention in Anaheim September 13th thru the 16th, and we are hoping that most all our Members will attend the Annual DelMar - Solana Beach Optimist Club Installation Banquet at the Moser home on Saturday, September 22nd, commencing at 4:00 pm. This is a fun event, and is "pot luck side dishes"
with Kent doing the grilling of the steak and chicken.
We all have a good time together, and the dress is casual. You are welcome to bring your spouse, family, and/or prospective members! We will be sending out a "sign up sheet", and more details will follow; however,I wanted you all to be aware of this event.
Then, on September 28th, we have the 17th Annual "Youth Fund Golf Tournament" scheduled at the Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course. Every Optimist Club Member is invited to attend the "Poolside Bar-B-Que" beginning at about 1:30 pm at a cost of only $10.00 each. You are welcome to but Raffle Tickets, and to bid on the Silent Auction Items. This is your opportunity to show support for our Club. many Members are scurrying about town gathering Raffle and Silent Auction items, in addition to Tee Sponsorships, and Golfing participants. This is our biggest Fundraising event of the year, and we need your help.
Thank You for your support during the past year, and Thank You for thinking of some of our Members who have had less than perfect health during the year - your thoughtfulness has been much appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Installation Banquest on the 22nd, and the Golf Tournament on the 28th!!
David B. Eller
Del Mar - Soland Beach Optimist Club President.
